The Saiyan always name themselves after vegetables. Saiyajin is derived from the Japanese word “yasai,” which means vegetable. So the Saiyajin are the vegetable people. For example, Raditz stands for radish, Broly for broccoli, and Son Goku’s Saiyajin name is Kakarot – which of course, stands for a carrot! And this naming also applies across universes: Kabba, the Saiyajin from the 6th universe, means cabbage! So it’s no wonder they can eat so much when their names already have to do with it.
List of All Saiyan Names
The Saiyans are already a strange race! They are not particularly peace-loving; Son Goku was finally sent to Earth with the mission to eradicate humanity and conquer the planet! Meanwhile, however, the prevented conqueror has become the world’s protector and has already saved the planet and the universe several times from certain doom!

Goku Saiyan Name
Goku is the name of a monkey king from an old Japanese fairy tale. The illustrator and creator of Dragonball used this template, and the character Son Goku from the manga/anime series Dragonball was created. Son Goku is a Saiyan and, after his birth, was classified as an underclass warrior and sent to Earth to exterminate humanity.
Son Goku’s Saiyan name Kakarot can be derived from the Japanese word for carrot. Also very ironic is that Son Goku doesn’t like carrots at all, despite his name origin. Akira Toriyama may have included a hidden message here that alludes to the dark origins of the series hero in Dragon Ball Z.
Male Saiyan Names
There’s something about Saiyans that screams “manly”. Maybe it’s the fact that they’re always yelling and fighting, or maybe it’s because they have big muscles and wear their hair in a spiky style. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that Saiyans are the epitome of manliness. And what’s more manly than being able to transform into a giant, muscle-bound monkey? Not much. Saiyans are the only ones who can do this, and it’s pretty much the coolest thing ever.

All Names of Known Saiyan Transformations
Like hardly any other anime series, Dragon Ball lives from the transformations of our heroes. Because of all these transformations, the overview can sometimes get lost.
Oozaru
The first transformation we see in the Dragon Ball story is into an Oozaru. After being captured by Emperor Pilaf and his henchmen, Son-Goku transforms into a giant ape. Into an Oozaru can transform all Saiyans who still have their tails and look at the full moon. In addition, this transformation can also be artificially triggered, for example, by the Saiyan creating a Power Ball, which is an artificial moon. In this form, some Saiyans seem to lose control of themselves.
Still, there are certainly examples of Saiyans retaining their clear minds in this form. When transformed into an Oozaru, a Saiyan’s power increases tenfold.
Wrathful Saiyan
This transformation is unique to Broly and allows him to use the power of an Oozaru without having to transform. His eyes turn yellow, similar to a Quadruple Super Saiyan. In addition, a green aura envelops his body. In the second stage of this transformation, Broly’s power increases significantly. His muscles grow, and his body becomes larger.
In addition, his hair stands up like a Super Saiyan. The power of the first stage of this form is about on par with that of a Super Saiyan God.
False-Super Saiyan
This transformation is also called False Super Saiyan or Pseudo Super Saiyan. Son-Goku could only achieve it so far in his fight against the evil Namekian Lord Slug. In this transformation, a golden aura envelops Son-Goku’s body. His pupils disappear, and he seems to be overcome by his rage.
As a false-Super Saiyan, Son-Goku’s powers significantly increased to defeat Lord Slug. Against Slug in his Giant Namekian form, however, the power of this transformation probably would not have been enough, although Son-Goku never had complete control over that form.
Super Saiyan
The first Saiyan in history to achieve this form is the legendary warrior Yamoshi. Son-Goku also achieves this transformation in his battle against Freezer a thousand years later.
In this transformation, Saiyan’s hair turns to gold; his hair stands on end, his pupils take on a green color, and his strength increases fiftyfold. In addition, speed and endurance are also increased.
Super Saiyan of the Second Degree and Third Degree
Similar to the Super Saiyan A-type, this form, also called Ultra Super Saiyan, is not a natural transformation. In preparation for their battle against the Cyborgs and Cell, Vegeta and Future Trunks and Son-Goku and Son-Gohan trained in the space of Mind and Time. During their intense training, Vegeta, Future Trunks, and Son-Goku achieved the Second Degree Super Saiyan.
This transformation significantly increases the physical strength and speed of the Saiyan. Achieving and controlling this form also ensured that their standard Super Saiyan form received a noticeable power boost.
Super Saiyan Full Power
After intense training in the space of mind and time, Son-Goku and his son Son-Gohan were the first to achieve Super Saiyan Full Power. Alternatively, this stage is also known as the Super Saiyan of the Fourth Degree. This form is also not a standard transformation but, strictly speaking, “only” an improvement of the regular Super Saiyan.
Saiyans who reach this level have fully mastered the Super Saiyan and maintain this transformation for an extended period. Thanks to intense training, this form feels to Son-Goku and Son-Gohan like their base form. Super Saiyans Full Power reduce the strain on their bodies due to their complete control over this form.
Legendary Super Saiyan
This special transformation is reserved solely for special Saiyans and cannot be obtained by unnatural means. Broly (DBZ + DBS) and Kale are the only Saiyans who have mastered this transformation. Alternatively, the Legendary Super Saiyan in the 7th Universe is also called Super Saiyan Full Power. A Saiyan’s body changes in this transformation similar to that into a Third Degree Super Saiyan, but without the drawbacks of this transformation.
A Legendary Super Saiyan is thus significantly more powerful than a regular Super Saiyan but loses none of its speed despite its immense muscle mass. Outstanding features of this transformation and the massive muscle mass are the green aurae and the initially green hair.
Super Saiyan 2
Son-Gohan was the first Saiyan to achieve this level in his battle against Cell after Son-Goku’s eldest son gave full vent to his anger. As the first Dual Super Saiyan, he was superior to his opponent due to the massive power boost of this transformation.
The power of this transformation is twice that of a simple Super Saiyan; thus, the power of the base form is increased a hundredfold.
Super Saiyan 3
During his first encounter with the demon Majin Boo, Son-Goku transformed into a Triple Super Saiyan for the first time. The power boost from this transformation is enormous, massively increasing both strength and speed. However, this transformation has its downsides; it puts an extraordinary strain on the Saiyan’s body and leads to faster fatigue than when using the regular or even Double Super Saiyan.
The energy consumption is so high that Son-Goku’s transformation shook the entire earth, shortened his time in this world, and noticeably reduced the fusion duration of Gotenks. Here, the golden hair takes on a more yellow color and grows much longer. In addition, the eyebrows disappear.
Super Saiyan God
The first Super Saiyan, Yamoshi, is also closely associated with this transformation. He was also the first Super Saiyan God. After his death, his soul did not find peace but continued to wander the 7th Universe, searching for Saiyans with a pure heart. From Shenlong, Son-Goku and his friends learned about the legend of the Super Saiyan God.
During a civil war between good and evil Saiyans on the planet Sadal, a Super Saiyan God appeared once before, after six Saiyans with pure hearts had transferred their power to one of their midsts. However, since the power of this transformation is only temporary, they were eventually murdered by their enemies.
Super Saiyan Blue
Suppose a Saiyan could reach the level of a Super Saiyan God and fully master the power of this transformation. In that case, he can reach the next level: Super Saiyan Blue, or Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.
To achieve this transformation, he must activate his divine Ki and then transform into a Super Saiyan; thus, in a sense, perfect control over one’s Ki is the key to this transformation.
Perfect Super Saiyan Blue
Like the regular Super Saiyan, the Super Saiyan Blue can be fully mastered and thus perfected. The result of Son-Goku and Vegeta’s intense training with Whis is the Perfect Super Saiyan Blue (manga only). Son-Goku uses this transformation for the first time in the fight against Fused Zamasu.
Visually, there are no differences between a regular Super Saiyan Blue and a Perfect Super Saiyan Blue – except for the lack of an aura.
Super Saiyan 4
Like the God transformations, the Quadruple Super Saiyan is also distinctly different from all the other transformations Saiyan can achieve. To reach this level, a Saiyan must still possess his tail and first transform into a Golden Oozaru. Once he regains his senses in this form and can thus control it, the transformation into a Quadruple Super Saiyan begins.
Like Broly’s Wrathful Saiyan, this transformation is thus closely related to a Saiyan’s proper form. Son-Gohan, who could achieve Quadruple Super Saiyan without his Saiyan tail through mere training, is an exception to this rule.
Berserker
The artificially created warrior Mira, a demon earthling who belongs to the Time Breakers, has unique Saiyan transformations due to his particular physiology combined with black demonic magic.
Like Cell, Mira also possesses Saiyan cells that allow him to perform special transformations such as Berserk (DBH only). This level is reserved only for demonic Saiyans.

Appearance
Typically, Saiyans have a tail from birth and possess the ability to transform. Their bodies are also unusually muscular for us humans at a young age, but this is hardly surprising for a warrior race like the Saiyans. Unlike humans, the Saiyans also have a much longer life expectancy, so Son Goku or Vegeta still look very young.
By the way, the purebred Saiyans usually have black hair that never needs to be cut. For example, when Vegeta trains with Trunks in the “Space of Mind and Time”, Vegeta comes out with the same hairstyle while Trunks has grown hair – because he is half-human.
Their Strength
Yes, the power is already laid in the cradle of the Saiyan! Because already after birth, the fighting strength of a Saiyan can be measured. He is then classified according to the level of an elite-class warrior, middle-class warrior, or sub-class warrior. However, only King Vegeta, his son Prince Vegeta, and Broly reached the elite level.
By the way, Son Goku’s fighting power was relatively low, so he was sent to earth as an “infiltration child”. The goal was that he would grow up there as a fighter and then conquer the planet – but as we know, it turned out differently.
Weaknesses
Hard to believe, but true: even Saiyans have their weaknesses! Especially in emotional matters, they are instead, well, let’s call it “reserved”. The best example of this is Vegeta. He has children with Bulma, but he doesn’t care about romance! Or have you ever seen how the two kiss?! Son Goku is a little “softer” because he grew up on earth. But he marries Chichi only because he promised her – without knowing what marriage means.
Besides, Saiyans are not intellectuals, except maybe for Son Gohan. When Vegeta and co have to undergo a small written test at the tournament against the 6th universe, Son Goku already has his problems with the simplest mathematical tasks. But let’s face it, that makes him all the more endearing.
